What is the conflict between classical and innovative therapies for the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma after recurrence?

How should patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma be treated after a recurrence? How can we get the best treatment?

This is a difficult decision!

As described in the article “Current Situation and Progress of Treatment for Nasopharyngeal Cancer Recurrence” in the review article of Peking University Hospital, the treatment for patients with nasopharyngeal cancer recurrence after radiotherapy is the three-pronged approach, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, plus targeted therapy.

So, is there any better treatment? The answer is definitely yes, only that they are not included in the treatment guidelines yet. For example, arterial intervention, photodynamic therapy, immunotherapy and Chinese herbal medicine treatment.

Photodynamic therapy is the most suitable for patients with local recurrence of nasopharyngeal cancer, because it is a kind of minimally invasive treatment and can be done through nasopharyngoscope.
