Is sore throat a new type of pneumonia?

A sore throat is not necessarily a new type of pneumonia, because a variety of upper respiratory tract diseases can cause a sore throat, such as acute tonsillitis, throat wall abscess, peri-tonsillitis, etc. It is not possible to determine whether or not a new type of pneumonia is present based on a single manifestation of sore throat. Based on the characteristics of the current clinical cases, the typical symptoms of new pneumonia are fever, malaise, and dry cough at the beginning of the disease, with respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea gradually appearing as the disease progresses. A small number of patients may have a stuffy nose, runny nose, sore throat and diarrhea. Sore throat is only a symptom seen in a small number of patients with novel coronavirus infection. Confirmation of novel pneumonia requires a history of novel pneumonia epidemiology and relevant clinical symptoms, which must also be combined with relevant laboratory and chest imaging tests. The diagnosis can only be confirmed if the conditions of the suspected case are met first, followed by nucleic acid testing of the new coronavirus, sequencing of the viral genes, and determination of antibodies.
