How long does it take to recover from rectal polyp surgery

How long it takes to recover from rectal polyp removal cannot be generalized and is related to the patient’s specific situation. The time to return to normal after rectal polyp surgery is related to the size and number of polyps in diameter. If the polyp is a single polyp with a diameter of <1 cm, it is usually removed by minimally invasive surgery under colonoscopy, and the recovery is usually faster and can be restored to normal in about 1 week. If it is a rectal adenoma or rectal polyp, larger, >2cm in diameter, suspected of malignant change, it may need to be removed openly, the recovery time of such surgery can be extended, and the diet can return to normal about 2 weeks after surgery. 3 weeks after open surgery, in addition to heavy physical labor, can resume normal life. However, it takes about 1 month for patients with open rectal polyps to fully return to normal. It is recommended that patients pay attention to rest during the recovery period, and also pay attention to avoid eating crumbly and spicy stimulating food, prohibit drinking alcohol, and try to rest in bed to avoid bleeding from the trauma.
