The healing time of sciatica is related to its etiology, severity and other factors. Sciatica mainly manifests as severe pain in the posterior lateral thigh and foot, which can be caused by a variety of reasons. Patients with spasm of the hip muscles compressing the sciatic nerve can be relieved in 7-10 days through oral anti-swelling and pain-relieving drugs and local physical therapy; sciatica caused by trauma can usually recover in 3 months; sciatica caused by mild lumbar disc herniation can be relieved in about 1 month through conservative treatment; severe sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation or pear-shaped muscle syndrome requires surgery for 1.5 years after surgery to fully recover; sciatica caused by tuberculosis or tumor compression on the sciatic nerve requires active treatment of the original disease and longer recovery time. Patients with sciatica should be treated for the cause of the disease, while taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, hormones and symptomatic treatment with blood-activating and blood-stasis-clearing, meridian-warming herbs, bed rest during the acute period, and appropriate functional exercise after the symptoms are relieved.
