Do all thyroid glands need to be removed if you have thyroid cancer?

If you have thyroid cancer, the thyroid gland does not necessarily need to be completely removed, but the form of surgery and the amount of removal should be decided according to your condition, as follows: 1. Iodine-131 treatment and long-term eugenol replacement and supplemental therapy should be applied. 2. Total excision is not needed: some patients have localized thyroid cancer and no metastasis. Most cases of thyroid cancer are papillary thyroid cancer, which is relatively well differentiated and has a good prognosis, and usually does not affect life expectancy after surgery. In this case, a comprehensive assessment of the severity of the disease, as well as the patient’s age and risk factors, should be made to determine whether resection is needed and how much to remove.
