General healing time for conservative treatment of tibial fractures

Conservative treatment of tibial fracture, usually using external fixation in plaster or splinting, the fracture healing time is about 10-12 weeks, depending on the individual. Most of the tibial fractures are caused by direct violence, if it is a simple closed fracture and the displacement is not obvious, it can be treated conservatively, usually with external fixation in plaster or splinting of the lower leg, and the fixation time is at least 10 weeks. During the period of fixation, X-rays should be reviewed regularly, and the external fixation should be removed after the fracture has healed, and functional exercise should be resumed gradually. After removal of the cast, the first step is to walk with the aid of crutches or a walker, while strengthening the functional exercise of the lower limb to avoid muscle atrophy. If the fracture end is significantly displaced or is a comminuted fracture, surgery is generally recommended. If conservative treatment is still used, the fracture will take at least three months to heal and it is easy to have a non-union or delayed healing.
