Can benign meningiomas become malignant?

Benign meningiomas have the potential to become malignant. Benign meningiomas are also graded, with grade I and grade II. Grade II meningiomas are actively growing. There may be another situation where a meningioma may be a grade I meningioma for the first time, which is benign, but in the process of recurrence, it may turn malignant or even transitional. There is also a case where the meningioma itself is somewhere between benign and malignant, just one pathological type. It may become malignant in the process of growth because it is actively growing under some causative factors. Therefore, once a meningioma is found after surgery, special attention should be paid if the pathology type is grade II. That is, after surgery, it is best to go back to the radiotherapy department for a consultation. Radiotherapy is performed to kill residual tumor cells to avoid malignancy and recurrence of the tumor.
