About the timing of cleft lip and palate surgery

Cleft lip and palate is the most prevalent congenital disease, surgery is its most effective treatment, the choice of surgery time is not exactly the same in each hospital, here, I mainly introduce the hospital plastic surgery on cleft lip and palate surgery time regulations. Cleft lip and cleft palate surgery is performed separately, first outside the cleft lip surgery, then cleft palate surgery, some hospitals, cleft lip and cleft palate will be performed at the same time within one year old, personally I think that too small to perform cleft palate surgery, too much impact on the later jaw development of the child. Cleft lip is divided into unilateral cleft lip and bilateral cleft lip, unilateral cleft lip repair can generally be performed at 3 months after birth, but requires a weight of 6.5KG or more, bilateral cleft lip repair is generally performed at 6 months after birth, requiring a weight of 7.5Kg or more; cleft palate repair is generally performed at 15 months after birth, with a weight of 10Kg or more. Personally, I think it is ideal to perform cleft palate surgery at 15 months, because if the child is too young to do it, it will have too much impact on the later jaw development of the child, and if it is too big to do it, it is afraid to affect the development of the voice system, children usually start to learn to speak at about one and a half years old, and after the cleft palate surgery, there is a process of wound healing, scar hardening and then softening, which takes about three months, and the scar softening is ideal. It is ideal to start speech training after the scar has softened. Therefore, I think that if the child weighs more than 10 kg, the surgery should be done at the age of one year and two or three months.
