A pathological change of the temporomandibular joint caused by occlusal abnormalities, trauma, mental, nutritional, developmental, systemic diseases or local structural abnormalities is called temporomandibular joint disorder syndrome, which does not refer to a single disorder but is a general term for a group of diseases whose etiology is not fully understood. The main clinical manifestations are pain in the joint area or peri-articular muscles, joint popping or murmuring, and abnormal joint movement, openness, and opening pattern. It is classified as masticatory muscle dysfunction, joint structural disorders and organic joint changes. The disease is more common in young adults, with a high prevalence in females aged 20-30 years, and most of them show functional disorders. Most of the patients with organic disorders are those who have not received formal treatment or timely treatment.
