Painless colonoscopy

Is colonoscopy painful? Colonoscopy is currently the easiest, safest and most effective way to detect and treat colorectal disease. I. However, colonoscopy can cause some pain during the examination. The specific reasons are as follows: 1. During the examination, gas is injected into the intestinal cavity to dilate and expose the intestinal cavity, which may cause a feeling of “abdominal distension” and a feeling of “wanting to relieve stool”. 2, due to the curved and tortuous large intestine, for patients with large intestinal curvature, history of abdominal surgery, and history of intestinal adhesions, they will feel distended and painful when passing through the colonoscope. 3, some patients face colonoscopy instruments and clinicians during the examination, their own psychological fear and affect the cooperation with the examination. Some patients are unwilling to perform colonoscopy, thus delaying the diagnosis and missing the best time for treatment, which is regrettable. What is painless colonoscopy? The difference is that painless colonoscopy uses intravenous anesthetic drugs during the examination, so that the patient can sleep and receive colonoscopy, and the patient feels no pain during the whole examination. – Painless colonoscopy Colonoscopists and anesthesiologists are performing painless colonoscopy The commonly used anesthetic drug is propofol Propofol is a milky white liquid that anesthesiologists call “happy milk” and is mainly used for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. It is mainly used for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. It is characterized by an onset time of only 30-60 seconds, short duration, rapid and smooth awakening, and the effect can disappear within 5 minutes. Before the painless colonoscopy, the anesthesiologist will push isoproterenol into the patient’s vein and start the examination after the anesthesia takes effect. During the examination, the patient did not feel any pain during the whole procedure because he “did not know anything”. After the examination is completed, the anesthetic drug is stopped and the patient wakes up in about 5 minutes. After the examination, the patient usually does not feel anything, but some patients may feel mild abdominal distension (because gas is injected into the intestinal cavity during the examination. Advantages and disadvantages of painless colonoscopy Advantages: anesthesia enables the patient to complete the whole examination and treatment process in a painless state, and wake up soon after the examination, without any discomfort and pain during the process. It reduces the patient’s fear and improves the patient’s tolerance. Since most patients feel good after the examination, painless colonoscopy is very popular among patients. Disadvantages: 1. The anesthetized state prevents patients from changing the position and cannot better cooperate with the physician’s operation. 2. In the process of difficult operation or polyp removal, patients cannot inform the painful situation and the risk of perforation is greatly increased, so painless colonoscopy has a high requirement for the level of the operator. 3. Since intravenous anesthetic drugs are needed, an anesthesiologist is also required to monitor and administer the drugs throughout the procedure, so the examination is more expensive. (Painless colonoscopy is about 300-600 yuan more expensive than ordinary colonoscopy. The prerequisite for painless colonoscopy is “no cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases and no history of allergies related to anesthetics”. Therefore, an electrocardiogram and anesthesia assessment by an anesthesiologist are required before the examination. Since propofol is a central depressant and is metabolized in the liver, it is not recommended for patients with severe respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, liver failure, or those in poor general condition. After the examination, the patient must be fully awake before leaving, and must be accompanied by a family member for the examination and transport home. You should not drive motor vehicles, operate machinery or work at height within 24 hours after the examination to avoid accidents.
