Specific steps 1. The day before the surgery, you will be admitted to the hospital, have the necessary pre-surgical examinations, and sign the consent form for surgery (for those under 18 years old, please have a legal representative fill out the consent form for surgery). The day before the surgery, the patient will be admitted to the hospital at 10:00 p.m. and will not be allowed to eat breakfast, and will not be allowed to eat any food or drink, including boiled water. 2. On the day of surgery, patients will be placed in the operating room in order and firstly, general anesthesia will be administered by the anesthesiologist on a short time basis. 3.Procedure: The surgeon will make two incisions of approximately 1.5cm in size in one armpit. The thoracoscope is inserted, and the sympathetic nerve next to the spine can be seen directly. After a simple cut or clamping of the sympathetic ganglion to be made, the lung is allowed to expand back to normal, and the wound is sutured to complete the surgery on one side. The thoracic sympathectomy or clamping is then completed in the same way on the other side. The actual surgery takes only a few minutes, plus anesthesia time, and the entire procedure can be completed in 30 minutes to an hour when performed by an experienced specialist. 4. After the anesthesia is clear, the patient is sent back to the ward. Usually you can get out of bed after 6 hours, and after 10 hours you can eat a small amount of liquid diet, and the next day you can eat regular food. 5.There will be chest tightness for several hours on the day of surgery, which is a normal phenomenon. In case of shortness of breath, severe chest pain or fever, you should consult a doctor. 6.After the surgery, you can observe for 2-3 days and be discharged from the hospital. It is normal for some patients to have chest pain or back pain within one to two weeks. Come to our hospital or local hospital to check the wound once and remove the stitches according to the appointment time (you can also remove the stitches at the local hospital). Please do not get the wound wet and try not to remove the Band-Aid covering it. In case of wetness, please go to the hospital to change the dressing in time and return to the clinic to check the wound at the appointment time. Principle of surgery Since hand sweating is the result of over-excitation of the thoracic sympathetic nerve, which controls hand sweating, cutting the thoracic sympathetic nerve under TV thoracoscopy can reduce the over-excited nerve activity and thus reduce the symptoms of hand sweating. Advantages of the procedure The effect of TV thoracoscopic thoracic sympathectomy is immediate; the procedure is painless and almost bleeding-free; the incision is small and hidden, in the bilateral axilla; the recovery is fast, only 2-3 days are needed to recover from the surgery; the effect is long-lasting and the recurrence rate is very low. In contrast, traditional thoracic surgery requires an incision of about 30cm in the chest wall, cutting off two layers of muscles in the chest wall, and sometimes a rib needs to be removed or cut off, which results in significant postoperative pain and can only be discharged in about 10-20 days, and leaves a 30cm surgical scar.
