Small Ear Deformity Cosmetic Surgery

Microtia is the result of incomplete development of the auricle. In mild cases, only the contour is small, or only the ear wheel is absent, while in severe cases, the whole ear is absent. The patient may have other abnormalities in the development of the first and second parotid arches, such as the underdevelopment of the maxilla, the underdevelopment of the mandible or the absence of the condyle. Microtia is the result of auricular hypoplasia. In mild cases, only the contour of the ear is small, or only the ear wheel is absent, while in severe cases, the whole ear is absent. The patient may have other abnormalities in the development of the first and second parotid arches, such as the underdevelopment of the maxilla, the underdevelopment of the mandible or the absence of the condylar process. Surgical auricular reconstruction is performed. This can be done in preschool or after the age of 10. The size and position of the reconstructed auricle is based on the healthy ear. Bilateral auricular reconstruction is based on normal or human standards. The cartilage scaffold can be either autologous rib cartilage or Medpore artificial scaffold. If hearing reconstruction is required, it is usually staggered with auricular reconstruction, and hearing reconstruction is performed first, preserving the skin around the residual ear as much as possible.
