Small Ear Deformity Treatment and Recent Advances – Vibrating Acoustic Bridge Implantation

Examination: 1.Hearing examination Objective examination mainly, supplemented by subjective examination Objective examination: brainstem evoked potentials (ABR), multi-frequency steady state Subjective examination: tuning fork test, electrical audiometry (Early examination at regular hospitals, regular review.) 2. Imaging CT or MRI: (1) the presence of bony external auditory canal; (2) the degree of mastoid pneumatization; (3) the size of the tympanic sinus and tympanic cavity; (4) the deformity of the auditory tuberosity; (5) the facial nerve; (6) the status of the inner ear deformity; Treatment: 1. Ear reconstruction If the hearing of the child with microtia is still acceptable after examination and does not affect speech learning, only the appearance should be considered. -Currently, the most widely used clinical method of ear reconstruction is to take autologous rib cartilage and implant it after sculpting, which is recommended to be done after 6 years of age. (There is a certain rate of stenosis after external ear canalplasty, especially for patients who belong to the scar body) Phase III Standing ear (about 3 months after Phase II surgery) 2. Hearing reconstruction Children with small ear deformities with varying degrees of hearing loss should be given priority to improve their hearing problems. (1) Very severe sensorineural deafness – cochlear implant (2) Conductive deafness – middle and outer earplasty/sound bridge (3) Conductive deafness with middle ear dysplasia – BAHA (4) Mixed deafness – canal and tympanic chamberplasty + hearing aid/sound bridge Vibratory sound bridge implantation in patients with microtia Most parents of children with microtia find out that their child has such a defect The vast majority of parents of children with microtia find out that their child has this defect and feel sad and guilty and overwhelmed by what they can do to help their child. As a medical professional, I am also a parent, so I understand this feeling, but I suggest that parents should have the right mindset to deal with it. Because if parents can’t face their children’s defects with a normal attitude, how can they ask the people around them to look at your children in a normal way? If parents can not do enough optimism and openness and how to let the child become strong and brave? Since the fact has already happened, sadness and guilt can’t help, so you should face it more positively, come out from the sadness and guilt as soon as possible, and find ways to remedy and treat the problem.
