The treatment of meningioma is mainly surgical resection followed by radiotherapy. In principle, complete resection and removal of meninges and bone invaded by the tumor should be strived for, with a view to radical cure. Meningioma is an extra-parenchymal growth tumor and most of them are benign. If early diagnosis can be made and surgery is performed before the tumor damages the surrounding brain tissues, important cranial nerves and blood vessels, total resection should be achieved. However, some advanced tumors, especially deep meningiomas, are so huge that they are too tightly adhered to nerves, blood vessels, brainstem and lower thalamus, or these nerves and blood vessels are not easily separated. It is advisable to limit to subtotal resection of tumor, reduce the volume of tumor, and supplement with decompression surgery to reduce the pressure of tumor on brain, relieve intracranial pressure and protect vision. Or to be treated by staged surgery. For advanced tumors that cannot be removed surgically, after biopsy of tumor tissue, only decompressive surgery can be performed to prolong life. Malignant cases can be supplemented with radiotherapy.
