What is meant by artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization?

Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is currently mentioned more often as artificial insemination and IVF. 1, artificial insemination, divided into two categories, artificial insemination of husband’s semen (AIH) and artificial insemination by donor (AID), the former using the husband’s sperm, the latter using donor sperm. 2, IVF is mainly a generation of IVF and second generation IVF. The so-called first generation IVF technology, that is, conventional IVF technology, after using different protocols of ovulation-promoting drugs, when the eggs are mature, the eggs are removed vaginally under the guidance of ultrasound and fertilized with treated sperm in a Petri dish, and the fertilized eggs are cultured and developed to a certain stage outside the body and then transplanted into the woman’s uterine cavity, where they will continue to develop into a fetus after bedding. The so-called second-generation IVF technique, intracytoplasmic single sperm injection (ICSI), is simply a microinjection technique to fertilize an egg by injecting a sperm directly into the cytoplasm of the oocyte at the time of fertilization. All other procedures are the same as conventional IVF techniques. It is suitable for patients with extreme oligospermia and weak sperm.
