It’s been 3 years since the God-like Steve Jobs left us, and while everyone is paying tribute to this great man, I can’t help but think about what he brought to us ophthalmologists! He brought us the Apple phone, but he also brought us the video screen terminal syndrome. Smartphones have changed our lives and our eye habits, and mankind has entered an unprecedented era of near-eye use. Read WeChat when resting, browse news when eating, take selfies when going out, everything in life seems to make it impossible for us to leave the phone of a few inches in size, all the more because it is intelligent, far more than the function it is used to call. Parents play with cell phones, children are bound to play secretly, grab to play, the original burden of schoolwork has caused excessive close eye, but now also to stare at a cell phone or PAD all day long, myopia is already inevitable. What’s more interesting is that many middle-aged and elderly people are now endlessly crazy about this, and the emergence of social tools such as WeChat and microblogging has brought friends closer together, but at the same time, the visual fatigue and dry eyes caused by old eyes have greatly increased the number of ophthalmology clinics. I have to say that the spectrum of diseases in our ophthalmology clinics is quietly changing because of cell phones and other video screen terminals. As an ophthalmologist, I can only advise you that it is not easy to maintain eye hygiene, and use and cherish it!
