Can leukopenia kill you?

Leukopenia, which can potentially lead to the death of the patient. This is because leukopenia, refers to a lower than normal number of white blood cells in the peripheral blood. If the number of white blood cells is severely reduced, it is clinically known as granulocyte deficiency. With granulocyte deficiency, the patient’s immune function is severely reduced and the patient is prone to serious infections, most commonly in the lungs, and sepsis can occur. Patients with severe infections may develop a series of symptoms such as high fever, cough, sputum, chest tightness, and in severe cases, even infectious shock, sepsis, and a series of other complications. If timely treatment is not given, or if the patient continues to have a severe lack of granulocytes, the infection cannot be easily corrected, which often leads to heart and lung failure and death. Therefore, leukopenia has the potential to lead to the death of the patient.
