Why is it important for patients with rheumatic diseases to have regular follow-up appointments?

There are two main purposes: First, to observe changes in the disease and adjust the treatment plan in a timely manner. The treatment of rheumatic immune diseases is a long-term and protracted battle. Doctors need to keep abreast of changes in the patient’s condition, drug efficacy and other information. If the patient’s condition is not under control, the doctor needs to increase or change the medication; if the patient’s condition is under control, the doctor needs to reduce the medication in order to reduce the impact of drug side effects on the patient. Second, monitor the occurrence of drug side effects. The drugs used for treatment may produce more side effects, such as stomach bleeding, white blood cell and platelet reduction, liver and kidney function damage, and genital damage. Therefore, regular checkups help doctors to adjust the dose or type of drugs in time to avoid the occurrence of side effects.
