In the past 30 years, the incidence of cancer has been on the rise. Many patients with malignant tumors are often diagnosed at an advanced stage due to atypical clinical symptoms, and lose the appropriate time for surgical treatment. The commonly used radiotherapy and chemotherapy are not able to kill all tumor cells. For example, cells in the S (DNA synthesis) phase of the cell division cycle, cells in the center of the tumor that are deprived of oxygen due to ischemia, low PH value and poor nutritional status, and cells that are resistant to chemotherapy drugs, these cells often still have the ability to reproduce and often become the root cause of tumor recurrence after radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Whole-body thermotherapy is the fifth treatment method for tumors after surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and biological therapy, which has special effect on killing those tumor cells that are “hibernating” or “leaking”. Whole-body heat therapy not only inhibits tumor metastasis and enhances human immune function, but also enhances the efficacy of chemotherapy drugs by increasing the concentration of chemotherapy drugs in tumor tissues, catalyzing the additive reaction between drugs and DNA of cancer cells, and causing cancer cells to repair themselves to DNA damage caused by chemotherapy drugs to reduce or reverse the occurrence of drug resistance. In clinical application, “thermotherapy + chemotherapy” can achieve the full dose of therapeutic effect by using only 1/3 of the original chemotherapy drugs without increasing the toxic effects of chemotherapy drugs. The efficacy of the combination of systemic thermotherapy and radiotherapy is also very complementary. Focusing on medical treatment, the Cancer Treatment and Research Center of Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology has been able to provide comprehensive treatment for malignant tumors of various stages of disease by using such therapeutic means as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, interventional therapy, biological therapy and traditional Chinese medicine, etc. In order to further improve the treatment means of tumors and better serve patients, the Center has taken the lead in introducing the UHR-2000 high power polybeam microwave tumor therapy, which has been patented by China and the United States, into the province. In order to further improve the tumor treatment means and better serve the patients, the center is the first one to introduce UHR-2000 type high power poly-beam microwave tumor whole body heat therapy machine which is patented by China and the United States. The machine is computer-controlled and uses the new microwave modulation technology combined with microwave beam technology, which greatly enhances the depth of heat penetration, and the interference-free, precise temperature measurement technology and automatic bed control technology provide strict temperature monitoring means and practical treatment adjustment methods. It has been improved and innovated in many aspects compared with ordinary microwave heating equipment, without the need for general anesthesia, high safety, good temperature control, easy communication between medical personnel and patients during treatment, and can minimize the incidence of complications. The patient, Mr. Wang, aged over 50, was found to have lung cancer in March 2007 at a local hospital due to bilateral chest pain, and the pathological examination was “bronchial adenocarcinoma”, and the lung CT examination showed a 2 cm diameter lesion in the upper lobe of the right lung, and the right second rib was concentrated on bone scan. In March 2008, the patient developed a cough and felt shortness of breath in the chest, and the chest X-ray and ultrasound showed right pleural fluid and right lung atelectasis with pericardial effusion. The patient’s cough and shortness of breath were relieved, and the right pleural fluid and pericardial effusion disappeared after one course of heat therapy using UHR-2000 high power microwave tumor whole body heat therapy machine.
