The criteria for hypertension, regardless of age, is diagnosed in China when it is >140/90 mmHg. The target blood pressure for the treatment of the elderly is different from that of general patients, because the elderly often have a combination of clear brain target organ damage, cerebral circulation disorders. Therefore, the target value of systolic blood pressure treatment for the elderly will be relatively loose and will not be required to 140 mmHg. Often, it is acceptable for the patient’s blood pressure to fluctuate between 140-150 mmHg, as long as the patient does not develop the corresponding symptoms. The patient’s age alone should not be used as a criterion, but also the presence of comorbidities such as coronary artery disease and cerebral infarction. When it is clear that the patient has comorbidities that cannot be tolerated, the blood pressure should be further reduced. In elderly patients with co-morbidities, the treatment goal should preferably be 130/80 mm Hg. Of course, the overall feeling of the patient should be the main factor, and if the patient’s blood pressure reaches 130/80 mm Hg with significant dizziness, the result should be debatable.
