Why acupuncture can’t be done in the afternoon

There is no clinical statement that acupuncture cannot be done in the afternoon, but it may be a statement made by some non-professionals or folklore without scientific basis. The time of acupuncture and the duration of needle retention vary according to each person’s lifestyle, physical condition, skin tolerance, and whether or not there are underlying diseases. This theory is based on the theory of the five elements of yin and yang, which calculates the opening and closing of the body’s qi and blood channels and acupuncture points, so as to choose the appropriate time for acupuncture. According to ancient Chinese medical texts, the body’s yang energy is stronger in the morning, while the disease energy is weaker, so generally the acupuncture time is preferred in the morning. However, there is no study that shows that acupuncture in the afternoon will significantly affect the therapeutic effect of acupuncture, and some clinical scholars also believe that acupuncture treatment can help improve insomnia, when the efficacy of acupuncture in the afternoon is basically better than that in the morning. In addition, after the caloric supplement of lunch and moderate rest of lunch break, the body is in relatively good condition, and it is a relatively good time for acupuncture treatment. It is recommended that people who choose acupuncture need not be overly concerned about the time of acupuncture, and that they can continue treatment at a regular hospital as instructed. It can also be used in conjunction with Chinese medicine treatments such as electrotherapy, moxibustion, cupping and small acupuncture to promote the relief of discomfort.
