Whether acute lymphoid leukemia in children can be cured – diagnostic staging at initial diagnosis is key

      Leukemia is no longer an incurable disease, as long as after reasonable and standardized treatment, most children with leukemia can be cured, especially acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children, more than 80% of children can be cured. However, what needs to be emphasized here is that the basis of “reasonable and standardized treatment” is accurate diagnosis and typing at the initial diagnosis! Only in this way can the correct clinical risk grouping (standard risk, intermediate risk and high risk) be guided, and only in this way can a reasonable and standardized stratified treatment plan be given, and only in this way can the purpose of curing leukemia as we mentioned earlier be achieved.    So, what does diagnostic staging at the initial diagnosis include? At a minimum, cytomorphologic, immunologic, cytogenetic and molecular biologic examinations are required, i.e. MICM diagnostic staging.    Due to the limitations of cytogenetics and molecular biology technology, MICM typing has so far been carried out only in some hospitals in large cities, while most local hospitals can only carry out morphological and partial immunological examinations, which makes childhood leukemia incorrect diagnostic typing and risk grouping, seriously affecting the rational treatment of the disease, causing many unnecessary complications, relapses and even deaths, and seriously It affects the efficacy of childhood acute leukemia and brings irreparable serious harm and disharmony not only to the affected children themselves, but also to their families and society.
