How often to review a fracture cast

If a fracture is externally fixed in a cast, the first follow-up appointment must be 3-7 days after the cast is applied. Because the early cast fixation is very unstable, it is possible that the cast is tight due to the continued swelling of the limb, which affects the blood circulation at the end of the limb, and the cast must be properly loosened at this time. In some patients with rapid swelling, the cast can become relatively loose after the swelling has subsided, and this is also the time when adjustment is necessary. If the fracture is easily displaced, it is easy to be misaligned even if the cast is externally fixed in the early stage, so the first follow-up is within 3-7 days, and it is necessary to see how tight the cast is and review the photos to see if the fracture is displaced. After the first follow-up, the rest of the time, if the fracture is stable, is a weekly review until the cast is removed.
