Do you know that the “poison against poison” cure arsenic?

Arsenic, whose main component is arsenic trioxide, is an ancient Chinese medicine that heals injuries and cures diseases, although it is highly toxic; in fact, arsenic trioxide was used in the West to treat leukemia, but it was not universally recognized and promoted. In the early 1970s, lymphatic tuberculosis and cancer could be treated with arsenic, light powder (mercurous chloride) and toadstool. Subsequently, it was converted into aqueous injection “cancer spirit”, which was effective in some tumor cases by intramuscular injection and was popular in the local area for a while, but was finally abandoned due to too much toxicity. But he did not give up, he brought the formula back to the hospital and led his colleagues from the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical College to start a long-term research. In the 1990s, he conducted further research with the Shanghai Institute of Hematology to confirm that arsenic trioxide was an effective ingredient in the treatment of leukemia. It eventually developed into one of the standard drugs for the global treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia. Arsenic is now commonly used in the clinical treatment of leukemia, especially for patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (M3 leukemia). Before the 1980s, acute promyelocytic leukemia basically relied on chemotherapy, with a survival rate of only 30-50 percent and a mortality rate of more than 90 percent. Until the 1990s our country began to apply intravenous arsenic, that is, arsenic trioxide, to treat the disease. At that time, arsenic was used to treat relapsed M3 leukemia, and the remission rate could reach more than 85%, and later arsenic became the first-line treatment for all M3 patients, and the treatment effect was very good. The mechanism of action of traditional chemotherapy drugs is to use their own toxicity to kill cells; while the principle of action of arsenic agents is to induce apoptosis. Traditional chemotherapeutic drugs kill cancer cells by external force, but arsenic agents induce cancer cells to accelerate their own death. Wang Wensheng made an image analogy. At present, it is believed that more than 85% of patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia can be cured with a year and a half of intermittent arsenic treatment according to the treatment guidelines. In the international arena, arsenic treatment for leukemia is also recognized. A large randomized controlled study was done in Italy, which confirmed that retinoic acid plus arsenic was more effective than chemotherapy. This treatment regimen was therefore included in the most authoritative guidelines in the United States. Arsenic has been used not only for leukemia, but also for lymphoma, myeloma, gastric cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, neuroblastoma, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and other malignancies. The use of arsenic agents must follow medical advice At present, apart from injections, there are oral arsenic agents. Oral arsenic agents allow patients to avoid hospitalization and take the medication at home, which reduces the burden of patients to a certain extent. Oral and intravenous arsenic agents are basically similar in terms of the population for which they are indicated, and patients can also achieve a cure for acute promyelocytic leukemia with oral arsenic agents. The most common side effect of arsenic agents is gastrointestinal reaction, where patients feel nausea and vomiting, which is usually mild. Another common side effect is liver and kidney function damage. Patients with combined gastrointestinal bleeding and other diseases should not use oral arsenic agents, and patients with particularly poor liver and kidney function should not use oral and intravenous arsenic agents. The arsenic injections and oral arsenic agents currently in use are scientifically refined, and people should not buy arsenic for leukemia or other cancer diseases without permission. The use of arsenic requires the guidance of a professional doctor, and patients must follow medical advice when using arsenic treatment. Especially in the treatment of leukemia, the amount of arsenic used and how long it is used need to be prescribed by a professional doctor according to the patient’s condition. Patients with leukemia should not take it without permission and increase or decrease the dosage at will.
