The baby has a recurrent fever with elevated white blood cells. If the temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees, the baby should be treated with antipyretic drugs, such as ibuprofen suspension, the dosage of which should be used according to the baby’s weight. Secondly, the child should be checked for C-reactive protein. If the white blood cells are elevated, along with the elevated C-reactive protein, it means that the recurrent fever is caused by bacterial infection, which can be treated with some oral antibiotics, such as cefixime granules for children, cefadroxil granules for children or amoxicillin granules. If there are allergies to these drugs, you can switch to azithromycin for anti-inflammatory treatment. If the above drugs are not effective orally, the child can be given intravenous drip of the above antibiotics for anti-inflammatory treatment. If the child does not have elevated C-reactive protein, but only has recurrent fever caused by elevated white blood cells, it is best to take the child to the hospital for an inpatient examination to rule out viral infections, hematologic diseases or autoimmune diseases, and preferably a bone marrow aspiration to clarify the cause.
