The difference between baby sweating and false sweating

Baby sweating is generally considered a normal physiological phenomenon if no other symptoms exist. Babies grow fast, are active, and have a high metabolism, so the water in their bodies will form sweat and be discharged. In addition, sweating is also an important mechanism for regulating body temperature. Generally babies will sweat after activity, after sleeping, or when the ambient temperature is too high, wearing too much clothing will also lead to sweating, generally does not cause significant impact on the body. In contrast, false sweating in babies is a TCM concept called pediatric sweating, which occurs in children aged 2-6 years with weak constitution. Babies sweat when they are in a quiet state or during continuous sleep, sometimes in the form of sweating all over the body, sometimes just limited to certain parts of the body, such as the head and forehead. According to Chinese medicine, babies with prolonged sweating are prone to loss of vital energy, and are often clinically pale, weak, thin, lazy, and poorly fed. If your baby sweats a lot, whether it is normal sweating or deficient sweating, you need to pay attention to drinking enough water on a daily basis, and the daily water intake should be calculated according to your weight, 120-160mL/kg for babies under 1 year old and 100-140mL/kg for babies 1-3 years old. The discomfort caused by sweating can be relieved. In addition, if your baby’s sweating persists, it is recommended that you seek medical attention to identify the cause and provide targeted treatment.
