How far are “fractures” from our little ones? To many parents, a fracture seems like a distant thing that has nothing to do with their baby. In fact, fractures are not far from us. According to foreign literature, 42% of boys and 27% of girls aged 0-16 have fractures; nearly 20% of children who visit hospitals for trauma have fractures. The incidence of fractures in children in China does not seem to be as high, but the “broken bones” do cast a shadow on the good childhood of many children. The causes of fractures in children can be broadly divided into three categories: accidental injuries, non-accidental injuries, and pathological factors. Non-accidental injuries mainly refer to abuse injuries, while pathological factors mainly include various tumors and tumor-like lesions of bone. Accidental trauma is the most common cause of fractures in children. Children are very energetic, like to play and jump around, have poor self-control, and lack the ability to recognize and judge the danger, so they are prone to accidental trauma, and their homes, schools and playgrounds are not safe havens. Children’s accidental trauma often happens in the following situations: 1. Falling down when running or walking: It often happens in schools and playgrounds. There are even children who have fallen on a walk in the community fractures. 2, slides, trampoline fall injuries: now parks, playgrounds have increased a lot of amusement facilities, bringing joy to children at the same time also hides a lot of hidden dangers. Every year, we encounter a lot of children who fall down from the slide and fall on the trampoline resulting in fractures. 3, skateboard, roller skating fall injury: skateboard and roller skating is the hobby of many children nowadays, especially the favorite of boys. Dr. Kang would like to remind children and parents that if you really want to skateboard and roller skate, please choose reliable quality skateboards and roller skates and take safety precautions, such as wearing knee pads, elbow pads and helmets. I don’t want to see you in the hospital. 4, bicycle injuries: there are two types of bicycle injuries that lead to fractures, one is fractures caused by older children who fall on their own bicycles, and the other is fractures caused by children who sit on the back seat of their mom or dad’s bicycle or electric car and have their feet sticking out of the wheel and being squeezed by the spokes. The spokes often lead to ankle and calf fractures, and often skin and soft tissue avulsions, and even Achilles tendon ruptures. This kind of trauma can be easily avoided, as long as parents have enough safety awareness and install mesh covers on both sides of the rear wheels of bicycles and electric bikes to prevent small feet from sticking into the spokes. Unfortunately, from time to time, we still encounter children whose feet are caught in the spokes and come to the hospital. 5.Falling from height injury: Although relatively rare, but the consequences are serious. Some parents because there are things to go out, no one at home to look at the child, the child alone in the house, or while the child sleeps the child alone in the house, the results of the child from the balcony, the window climbed out, the results are unimaginable. 6, car accident injuries: Nowadays, motor vehicles are becoming more and more popular, and the dangers associated with them have increased accordingly. Fractures caused by car accidents can occur in children outside the car, but also in the car inside the child. It goes without saying that fractures in children outside of the car are not “worry-free” for children sitting in the car. Foreign children riding in motor vehicles have strict regulations, there are special safety seats can be installed in the car to ensure that when a car accident small passengers can get the maximum protection. Domestic does not seem to have seen the special safety seat. So we can only ask our drivers to be careful when driving, feet, for the sake of your children, but also for the sake of other children.
