What about congenital microtia hearing problems?

In patients with unilateral microtia, the hearing loss is about 30% due to the presence of 40% hearing on the affected side and normal hearing on the healthy side, which has no great impact on daily life and pronunciation except for slightly poorer judgment of direction. In addition, there are many post-operative complications, minimal and often unsustainable hearing improvement, and limitations in certain sports (e.g., swimming), it is not advisable to perform middle ear surgery for hearing reconstruction prior to full ear reconstruction surgery for these patients. Otherwise, the results of total ear reconstruction surgery will be greatly affected or even fail. For patients with bilateral microtia and atresia of the external auditory canal, early external auditory canal and middle ear reconstruction should be performed to improve hearing. The first-stage auricular reconstruction and hearing reconstruction surgery should be performed simultaneously to obtain harmony and unity between the two and avoid postoperative contracture and narrowing.
