Hypertension does not cause an increase in blood uric acid, but when we take antihypertensive drugs, such as diuretics like indapamide and hydrochlorothiazide, an increase in blood uric acid may occur, and sometimes it may lead to an attack of gout. Increased blood uric acid can be seen in kidney diseases, such as acute or chronic nephritis or tuberculosis, pyelonephritis, or hydronephrosis. Leukemia and other malignant tumors, and eclampsia can also cause an increase in blood uric acid. Patients with hypertension can have an increase in blood uric acid when they take such diuretics, and when there are renal complications of hypertension, it may also lead to an increase in blood uric acid.
