The signs presented by patients with pneumonia are related to the severity of the disease. Most patients show signs of fever, presenting a febrile appearance and an increased heart rate. Early pulmonary signs are not obvious, and in severe cases there may be increased respiratory rate, nasal agitation, and cyanosis of the lips and mouth. If solid lung changes occur, there will be typical pulmonary signs. In this case, the respiratory movement of the affected side of the chest is weakened, the chest percussion is turbid, the palpation is enhanced, and bronchial breath sounds can be heard on auscultation, etc. Wet rales can also be heard. If the lesion involves the pleura, there may be pleural friction on palpation and pleural fricative sounds on auscultation. If pneumonia is complicated by pleural effusion, then there is a turbid sound on percussion on the side of the pleural effusion, and the fibrillation is diminished on palpation, and the breath sounds are also diminished or even absent on auscultation.
