For people with acetabular dysplasia, if the morphology of the joint and the joint space are basically normal, periacetabular osteotomy is a very satisfactory method, which can effectively relieve joint pain and restore the function of the joint if it is performed early. If performed early, it can effectively relieve joint pain and restore the function of the joint, thus preserving the joint and avoiding or delaying joint replacement surgery. However, the disadvantage of this procedure is that it is more invasive, difficult to perform, bleeds a lot, and patients have to receive blood transfusions. As we all know, there are many potential risks associated with massive blood transfusion, such as infection with hepatitis B, hepatitis E, syphilis, AIDS and so on. After more than a decade of continuous exploration as well as technological innovation, our hospital now completes the periacetabular osteotomy in much shorter time, about 30-40 minutes to complete the osteotomy, therefore, bleeding is greatly reduced. At the same time, thanks to the advanced autologous blood return system, the blood discharged during the surgery is recovered, washed and then returned to the patient. Therefore, in most cases, patients do not need to transfuse other people’s blood, or a small amount of blood can be transfused, thus bringing benefits to patients with acetabular dysplasia. Not only can the blood return system be used in osteotomy, but we can also avoid transfusion or reduce transfusion by applying the blood return system in joint replacement surgery.
