Recurrent attacks of pneumonia are most common in the elderly who are bedridden for long periods of time, as prolonged bed rest leaves the patient’s lung base in a state of bruising and edema, and the elderly have coughing, sputum, weakness and poor drainage of sputum which can lead to recurrent lung infections.
