Minimally invasive treatment of pancreatic tumors

A year ago, Mr. Fang had a cholecystectomy for gallstones, and when he came to our hospital for a review not long ago, he unexpectedly found a pancreatic tumor, which was diagnosed as pseudomucinous cystadenoma in the duct of the pancreas after further examination. I told Mr. Fang that this type of tumor is prone to cancer and should be removed surgically as soon as possible. So, Mr. Fang was immediately admitted to the hospital and waited for the surgery. After a plan for laparoscopic surgery to remove the pancreatic tumor was made for Mr. Fang, he underwent the surgery. On the third day after the surgery, Mr. Fang walked on the ground and soon after he was discharged from the hospital, he started to work and live normally again. 1.Pancreatic related science There is an inconspicuous organ deep in the upper abdomen of our body – the pancreas. Although the pancreas is small, it plays an extraordinary role. As a very important organ of the human body, the pancreas has both exocrine and endocrine functions. The main component of exocrine is pancreatic juice, which is used for digestion, while the main component of endocrine is insulin and glucagon, which are mainly used for sugar metabolism. 2, pancreatitis patients should be alert to pancreatic cancer Compared to other organs, the pancreas is smaller and in a special location, and its lesions are not easily detected by ultrasound in the abdomen during routine physical examinations, and the chances of detection by CT and MRI are higher, but these are not routine examinations. As for clinical manifestations, except for neuroendocrine tumors which may have endocrine abnormalities, general pancreatic tumors are basically asymptomatic. Therefore, it is difficult to detect pancreatic tumors at an early stage. Many patients are often in advanced stages of pancreatic cancer when they are discovered. Research in recent years has found that pancreatic cancer has a characteristic that its cancerous process is related to pancreatitis. According to statistics, about 1.5% of patients with pancreatitis over 40 years of age will develop cancer within 48 months. Therefore, it is recommended that patients over 40 years old with a history of acute pancreatitis should be followed up for 48 months to help screen for pancreatic cancer at an early stage. 3. Surgery is preferred for pancreatic tumors Benign pancreatic tumors include islet cell tumors, pancreatic cysts, adenomas, lipomas, fibroids, etc., but all of them are rare. Pancreatic tumors are mostly malignant, and some of them have a high chance of malignant transformation even if they are clearly benign. In general, pancreatic tumors need to be removed surgically. Pancreatic cancer is known as the “king of cancers” and is highly malignant. During surgery, some patients need to remove the surrounding tissues and organs, such as combined splenectomy and combined duodenectomy.
