The baby is immersed in amniotic fluid while in the mother’s body and the skin is covered with a layer of foetal fat which is gradually absorbed in the hours after birth. The skin is completely exposed and exposed to the dry external environment, so the epidermis will peel off and peeling of the hands and feet will occur. As long as there are no abnormalities in the newborn’s diet, sleep or bowel movements, there is no cause for concern and it is normal.
