Recently, we met a female patient from Wenzhou, now 40 years old, who had been suffering from cough for more than 20 years. She had several attacks each year and could not sleep during the attacks. She used antibiotics for each attack, but the effect was not obvious. This time, she came to me and wanted to try it with herbs. I found that the patient was usually introverted and did not voice any arguments with others, but kept it inside, coughing with little or no sputum and coughing more violently, which seriously affected her sleep. He had a stringent pulse and a light red tongue with little moss. After the four consultations, I proposed to use the method of sparing the liver and moistening the lungs to stop the cough, using Radix Platycodon grandiflorus, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Chen Pi, Salvia officinalis, Radix Bupleurum and Semen Cassia. Two days later, I received a message from the patient saying that he could sleep peacefully at night after taking the soup I prescribed for one day, and I asked him to continue taking it. A week later, the patient wrote to me saying that her cough had stopped after taking the medicine for 3 days and thanking me for relieving her of the pain she had suffered for nearly 20 years. From the results of this patient’s diagnosis and treatment, it can be said that if the prescription is right, the effect is immediate and even better than antibiotics.
