How late can the plate be removed?

Generally speaking, it is not recommended to take out the plate after the plate fixation of fracture for more than 2 years to avoid other hazards. After the plate fixation of fracture, the plate should be removed only after the fracture is completely healed, that is, the functional rehabilitation of the whole limb or joint has been completed and the patient can return to the normal level of daily life. If the plate is placed for too long, there is a possibility that the screw will break or the screw end cap will slip and so on. If the plate is still not removed for more than 2 years, the difficulty of removing the plate will increase, and there is a risk that the traumatic nature will increase and the postoperative exudation and bleeding will worsen. Therefore, it is recommended to remove the plate within the time directed by the orthopedic surgeon. In addition, after removing the plate, patients can do appropriate physical exercise every day to enhance physical fitness, resistance and immunity, but be careful not to over-exert the exercise.
