Small bowel injury and abdominal injury often go hand in hand. Once diagnosed, small bowel injury needs to be treated surgically as soon as possible, unless there are contraindications or no conditions for surgery. However, a combination of measures is required, including fluid and nutritional support, fasting and gastrointestinal decompression, antibiotics and treatment of infectious shock. Patients also need to be rested during their hospital stay to promote recovery.
