How long can you live with colon tumors?

Colon tumors can be divided into two types: benign colon tumors and malignant colon tumors. Benign colon tumors are usually small in scope and can be detected at an early stage through surgical removal of the tumor and radiotherapy. The survival rate of most malignant tumors of colon is 50%-60% after active treatment. 1. Benign tumors: The most common benign tumors of colon are colon polyps, if they are caused by inflammation or hyperplasia, they can be observed without symptoms. If the polyp is caused by inflammation or hyperplasia, it can be observed without symptoms and can disappear on its own after the inflammation is relieved. If the polyps have malignant lesions and affect normal life, early detection and surgical intervention to remove the polyps can reduce the incidence of cancer, and the recovery period after removal is 15-30 days, and the prognosis is generally good. In addition to colon polyps, benign colon tumors are also seen in colon adenomas, mesenchymal tumors, lipomas, fibromas, adenomyosarcomas, etc. After active treatment, they have less impact on the survival period of patients, and patients need not worry excessively; 2. Malignant tumors: malignant tumors of colon have relatively good prognosis among gastrointestinal tumors, and the general 5-year overall survival rate is 50%-60%. If colonic malignant tumor does not undergo interventional treatment, the survival time depends on the patient’s own condition and the invasion speed of cancer cells, which is generally not very long. If the malignant tumor is in early stage, patients should undergo surgery in time, and actively cooperate with subsequent radiotherapy and chemotherapy after surgery, the survival time is generally more than 5 years or even longer. If the patient is in the middle stage, the survival time is about 4 years. If the patient is in advanced stage, the survival time is 2-3 years, but if the patient’s disease is more serious, the survival time will be relatively reduced to 6-12 months. Besides, the survival time of tumor is related to the above, it is also related to patients’ own psychological factors. If a patient learns that he/she is suffering from tumor, he/she will suffer from mental stress, which will lead to poor appetite, and then cause decrease in immunity of the body, which will eventually affect the treatment effect. Therefore, it is suggested that patients should maintain an optimistic attitude in daily life, actively participate in recreational activities and physical exercise, ensure sufficient nutrition and sleep quality, etc., which will help to prolong the survival period.
