It is most commonly known as “rotten ear” and is characterized by a feeling of stuffiness or blockage in the ear, often accompanied by a foul odor or pus, hearing loss and tinnitus. It often occurs after a cold, or unconsciously. Sometimes the hearing can be improved by a change in head position. There is self-hearing enhancement. Some patients have mild ear pain. In children, it is often characterized by dullness of hearing or inattention. Patients with acute suppurative otitis media typically have a history of severe pain in the ear after a cold, but the pain is significantly reduced after the ear bleeds. Pus flowing in the ear immediately after a cold, in large amounts, and generally without odor is more often seen in patients with chronic otitis media. However, in the case of persistent attacks with small amounts and a foul odor, or when there is a headache, it should be considered as cholesteatoma otitis media or granulomatous otitis media, and surgery is often required. If there is bleeding in the ear and headache, you should also be alert to the possibility of middle ear cancer. Watery discharge from the ear can be caused by otitis media or tuberculosis. Patients with otitis externa may also have water flowing from the ear. Patients with boils in the external ear canal may have significant auricular pulling pain before the pus flows from the ear. The causes of ear discharge are: 1. Delayed treatment and improper medication during the acute phase of otitis media, etc. 2. Dysplasia of the mastoid process, which makes it difficult for the lesion to dissipate after it occurs. 3. Acute necrosis of the middle ear mucosa secondary to acute infectious diseases such as scarlet fever, measles and pneumonia, with inflammation invading the mastoid process of the tympanic sinus, especially secondary to drug-resistant Aspergillus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections, which are very difficult to treat. 4, chronic diseases of the nose and pharynx and sinusitis, tonsillitis and hypertrophy of the proliferators, inflammatory secretions are easy to enter the eustachian tube, and the lesions prevent the drainage of the pharyngeal opening. 5, chronic peripheral diseases such as anemia, diabetes, tuberculosis and nephritis, etc., the body’s resistance is weakened.
