Chronic suppurative otitis media is often caused by prolonged acute suppurative otitis media and should be seen promptly. Intermittent discharge and hearing loss alone can be temporarily treated symptomatically. In cases of recurrent pus flow with hearing loss and foul-smelling pus, surgery is recommended.
