How effective is the conservative treatment of cervical spondylosis?

What are the methods of conservative treatment? The main methods of conservative treatment for cervical spondylosis are: activity restriction, wearing a neck brace, medication, cervical traction, physical therapy, and complementary Chinese medicine. How effective is conservative treatment? If it is light cervical spondylosis, many patients may be symptom-free after conservative treatment; if it is neurogenic cervical spondylosis or spinal cord cervical spondylosis, it means that the nerve root or spinal cord is compressed, and conservative treatment in this case can only reduce the edema produced after the nerve root or spinal cord is compressed, and the compression itself is difficult to be removed by conservative treatment. In other words, the compression factor is still there, and the symptoms will reappear as the disease progresses. After four to six weeks of regular conservative treatment, if the symptoms do not resolve or even tend to worsen, surgery should be considered. Even if the conservative treatment relieves the patient’s symptoms or achieves satisfactory results, it is still necessary to pay attention in daily life, try not to strain, not to catch cold, and not to overuse the neck, such as working or driving with the head down for a long time.
