Viagra will trigger hearing damage

Viagra, the world’s most famous drug used to improve erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, can help you reach the peak of your passion. But scientists have warned that these little blue pills may cause deafness to occur. According to foreign media reports, Viagra and some similar aphrodisiacs have been found in studies to be closely related to perhaps hundreds of cases of sudden deafness across the world, and there have been warnings in the U.S. stating that such drugs have the potential to damage hearing. Researchers at several hospitals in the United Kingdom analyzed reports of “Viagra deafness” (hearing loss shortly after taking aphrodisiac drugs) from drug regulatory agencies in Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia and Australia. They found 47 cases of suspected neurological hearing loss – sudden monaural or binaural hearing loss that may be associated with drugs such as Viagra, Cialis and Albuterol. The average age of the patients was 57, with a few case patients as young as 37. It is not clear how long the problem has been going on, but the most common cause of this type of hearing loss is due to disease or exposure to noise, causing permanent damage in a third of the cases. And of the 29 previously suspected cases in the U.S., only one-third were temporary damage, according to data from the FDA regulatory agency. The FDA advises people who find themselves using these pills to stop taking them and seek medical attention immediately if they notice a sudden deterioration in their hearing. Researchers in the UK have not been able to determine the exact cause of Viagra’s impact on hearing, but currently estimate that it may be due to a chemical chain effect triggered in the inner ear. AfrozeShahKhan, an otolaryngologist at Charing Cross Hospital (CharingCrossHospital), said doctors need to be alert to this potential danger when prescribing these drugs. But the U.K.’s Medicines Inspectorate said it is “extremely rare” for Viagra and hearing loss to be linked together. Current reports do not prove that these adverse reactions were caused by these drugs.
