Breast cancer self-examination methods

A comprehensive self-examination of the breast by visual touch of the breast.

First of all, self-examination of the breast should look for abnormal skin changes, such as cellulite changes, ulcers or dimples in the skin, bilateral breast symmetry, and lumps of raised skin.

Second, the breast should be palpated in detail, and if a lump is present, it should be probed and felt in detail for surface boundaries, shape, texture, and lump mobility.

Finally, attention should be paid to the presence of enlarged lymph nodes in the armpits and abnormal overflow in the nipple-areola region, especially bloody overflow. It is common to use the mirror self examination method, the shower examination method, and the lying down touch method. Breast palpation, as the name implies, is the use of palpation to examine the breasts. The order of breast palpation mainly follows the four quadrants, generally the upper inner, upper outer, lower and lower quadrants, mainly touching the areola, then squeezing the nipple to see if there is any overflow, followed by touching the armpit and collarbone area. It is recommended to relax and avoid tension during the examination.
