Zoledronic acid – a third generation bisphosphonate – is used for the treatment of bone metastases with good results. Recent studies have found that zoledronic acid has not only a therapeutic and osteoprotective effect on bone metastases, but also an antitumor effect. the ABCSG-12 trial showed that the addition of zoledronic acid to endocrine therapy in premenopausal patients significantly reduced disease-free survival. Therefore, experts suggest that breast cancer patients with a high probability of recurrence can be treated with zoledronic acid during endocrine therapy as a new way of breast cancer treatment. There are currently two regimens: zoledronic acid 4mg every 3 months or zoledronic acid 4mg every 6 months.
