Signs of acute suppurative otitis media are tympanic membrane congestion, lighthouse sign, and mastoid pressure.
1. Tympanic membrane congestion: otoscopic examination of acute suppurative otitis media will show congestion of the flaccid part of the tympanic membrane and radial dilated blood vessels in the area of the hammer bone. In addition, the tympanic membrane will appear swollen, diffusely congested, outwardly distended, and localized yellow spots.
2. Lighthouse sign: with the development of the disease, the patient will have a perforation of the tympanic membrane, if the perforation is small, there will be a pulsating bright spot out of the perforation, which is called the lighthouse sign, and there will be pus flowing out of the area. If the patient has necrotizing tympanitis, a large tympanic membrane perforation will occur.
3. Mastoid tenderness: When the patient performs ear palpation, the mastoid area will have tenderness, while the sinus area will have more obvious tenderness.
