Since September 2008, the new “Revolix 2 micron laser surgery system” and “Holmium laser treatment system” have been successfully implemented in the Urology Department of Xuanwu Hospital’s Minimally Invasive Treatment Center. It is reported that the success rate of this technology in treating prostate enlargement is more than 99.8%. “The Revolix 2-micron laser surgical system was imported from Germany (see figure) and combines the advantages of the green laser “vaporization” approach and the holmium laser “cutting” technology.2 The penetration depth of the micrometer laser in the tissue is only 0.3 mm, leaving a coagulation layer of only 1 mm after the removal of the hyperplasia. The procedure removes the hyperplasia quickly and effectively, and the fragments can be flushed out like prostate vaporization, without any adverse effects such as tissue edema or necrosis. Also the 2 micron laser surgical system works within 2 mm of the front of the fiber, and the tissue beyond 2 mm will not be damaged in any way, making the operation very safe. The procedure is more suitable for elderly patients and those with many complications, and is not limited to the size of the prostate enlargement. During the operation, the surgeon first introduces a 2-micron laser fiber through the patient’s urethral orifice, observes the prostate enlarged tissue on a monitor, and then turns on the laser treatment instrument, with the fiber optic head removing the enlarged tissue directly. “The laser is used for both vaporization and precise cutting. When the laser irradiates the hyperplastic tissue, the powerful energy is instantly absorbed by water, producing a strong effect to vaporize and remove the tissue. The operation time is greatly shortened. &At present, among the more than 100 patients treated with this technology in our hospital, no complications such as urinary incontinence and post-operative recurrence have occurred, marking that the hospital’s application of this technology has reached the international leading level. In addition, the 2 micron laser is widely used for the treatment of prostate enlargement, but also for bladder tumors, urethral strictures, ureteral polyps, and laparoscopic nephrectomy. At the same time, our department has introduced the German “Sphinx Holmium laser treatment system”, which has greatly improved the efficiency of our urological minimally invasive treatment center in treating urinary stones. The application of this technology not only has fewer surgical complications, faster recovery and shorter hospital stay, further reducing surgical pain and economic pressure for patients.
