Recently, several patients have been encountered, all of them had advanced thyroid cancer at the time of consultation, with multiple metastases in the lungs or bones, and very fixed local tumors, invading important organs such as trachea, esophagus and common carotid artery, basically losing the chance of surgery, with very poor prognosis and almost no quality of life left. The most distressing thing is: one of these patients was only 18 years old, which is the age of doubleness, but very unfortunately, her life may be counted in months. Some of these patients are negligent about thyroid nodules, some are afraid of surgery, some think that thyroid cancer is less malignant, some have received irregular surgical treatment in outside hospitals, some cannot accept “lifelong medication”, some believe in “no injections, no medication for thyroid nodules” and so on. Some of these patients have one thing in common. These patients all have one thing in common, that is, they do not choose correct and timely treatment, which leads to delayed disease, rapid tumor progression, advanced stage, and metastasis in multiple locations throughout the body. Many of them choose to take Chinese medicine for treatment. The 18-year-old patient chose to take Chinese medicine for more than 1 year because she was afraid of surgery, and spent more than 100,000 yuan. I have found many such patients in my work, and as a doctor I feel very deplorable. Here, I repeatedly emphasize that the discovery of the disease must be treated by an experienced doctor in a timely manner to avoid delaying the disease, even for the so-called low malignant papillary carcinoma, which still requires active treatment. Many patients will choose Chinese medicine for treatment. Indeed, Chinese medicine may be effective for early thyroid nodules, but there is no evidence-based basis to prove that Chinese medicine is effective for thyroid cancer. Therefore, please try to choose regular hospitals and experienced doctors to receive standardized diagnosis and treatment. The picture below shows a very advanced papillary thyroid cancer patient I met at work, the tumor had rotted through the skin, causing heavy bleeding, and there was no effective treatment available.
