Does a child need a cast for a fracture?

A child’s fracture needs to be fixed in a cast. Both children and adults who have fractures that are not treated surgically need to be treated conservatively accordingly. The use of external fixation, such as a cast, is the most important treatment tool in conservative treatment. Plaster fixation can significantly reduce the force on the fracture end and allow the fracture to heal gradually in a relatively stable manner. It is natural for children to be fixed in a cast after a fracture, and children have less self-control, which makes it easier for the fracture to move. Therefore, children need to be fixed in plaster after fracture, and the reliability of plaster fixation should be closely observed to prevent loosening and failure of fixation.
