Which patients with reflux esophagitis need surgical treatment

Reflux esophagitis is a common disease in gastroenterology or thoracic surgery, but it is difficult to treat in either gastroenterology or thoracic surgery. In 1991, Geagea performed the first laparoscopic fundoplication, which gradually became the gold standard for the treatment of moderate-to-severe reflux esophagitis because of its precise treatment effect and minimal trauma. In fact, the basic procedure is to reduce the gap around the esophagus while using a part of the stomach to make an anti-reflux flap that allows the contents of the esophagus to enter the stomach without allowing the contents of the stomach to reflux into the esophagus, a procedure that is done laparoscopically with only a few holes in the stomach and minimal trauma.
