Can a fractured tailbone heal on its own?

The ability of a tailbone fracture to heal on its own without treatment is related to the severity of the condition. Minor tailbone fractures can usually heal on their own, but if the condition is more severe, it can be difficult to heal on its own. The tailbone is a gradually degenerating part of the bone in the body with more muscular starting and ending points that play a supportive role. If a tailbone fracture occurs without significant dislocation, it does not require special treatment and can heal spontaneously after 1-2 months of bed rest, during which time avoid prolonged sitting to avoid painful pressure on the fracture site. If the tailbone fracture is significantly misaligned and leads to fecal dysfunction, a manual repositioning is required. After a successful manipulation, the patient should rest in bed as much as possible, with the aid of medication. Therefore, patients with tailbone fractures should undergo local swelling and pain relief, rest for recovery, and pay attention to daily recuperation.
